Sporty trousers, in khaki cotton, with side slit pockets and front darts, they were originally worn in the American air force before being adopted by all the other armed forces. The trousers are named after the country of China which supplied the US Air Force troops stationed in the Philippines with summer uniforms in 1926. Chinos have been a popular item of civilian clothing for casual wear and other informal occasions since the 1940s.
